Homemade Wrinkle Cream Recipe

Sweet, skin smoothing homemade wrinkle treatments your face will love

Making your own homemade wrinkle cream is a great way to save money. Plus, it's actually better for your skin (and your health) because you're not adding the toxic ingredients or cheap fillers that are in a lot of commercial face moisturizers.

And you can customize your homemade wrinkle cream for your specific skin type or condition.

Plus, it's fun and a lot easier than you might think. Here's a simple homemade wrinkle cream recipe to get you started, followed by some suggestions for customizing the basic recipe to suit your skin's specific needs.

By the way, this face moisturizer is gentle enough for using around the eye area - in fact, it makes a very good homemade eye wrinkle cream recipe.

Basic Homemade Wrinkle Cream Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons (3 to 8g) Emulsifying wax (depending on how thick you want it)

1/3 cup (75ml) Jojoba or Kukui Nut oil (see below for customizing carrier oils)

2 tablespoons (25ml) Vegetable Glycerin

1/2 cup (125ml) distilled Water or Hydrosol (see below for suggestions)

1

teaspoon (5ml) Vitamin E

10 drops Grapefruit Seed extract

One of the Essential Oil blends below

Directions

  1. Stir together the oil, emulsifying wax and glycerin in the top part of a double boiler, warming slowly over a low heat until the wax is melted. Remove from heat and pour in the Vitamin E.

  2. In a separate pot on the stove, gently warm the water just until lukewarm. Do NOT skip this step - your homemade wrinkle cream will separate later if the water is too cold.

  3. Slowly pour the water into the oil, stirring constantly with a wire whisk until the mixture is thick and smooth.

  4. Stir in the essential oils and the grapefruit seed extract. Pour the wrinkle cream into a clean, sterilized 8oz (250ml) dark glass or PET plastic jar and allow it to cool before putting the lid on.

  5. Stir the cream occasionally as it cools to prevent the ingredients from separating. Store in a cool, dark place.

This recipe makes approximately 8oz (250ml) homemade wrinkle cream.

Customizing Your Homemade Wrinkle Cream Recipe

I chose the essential oil blends specifically for aging skin - wrinkles, age spots, sagging, dryness, dullness and sensitivity - but you can substitute your choice of essential oils to suit your skin or sense of smell.

The essential oils I chose are expensive (to get the best anti-aging effects) but you'll still find that using them over several batches works out to considerably less than the cost of commercial wrinkle treatments.

You can also reduce the strength of the scent by decreasing the number of drops of essential oils. Do not increase the essential oils, however, since they should only be a certain percentage of the total recipe.

Choosing the best carrier oils: For a richer, more moisturizing home remedy for wrinkles, use Sweet Almond oil (makes the cream a bit greasier.) For oily, acne-prone skin, replace the Kukui Nut with Grapeseed oil.

You can also power up your homemade wrinkle cream by replacing some of the Jojoba oil with small amounts of extra-nourishing carrier oils such as Avocado, Borage, Calendula, Evening Promrose, Rosehip or Sea Buckthorn oil. Read the aromatherapy carrier oils page and see what might work best for your skin type.

Hydrosols are made when plants are steam distilled to create essential oils. They contain not only the scent of the flowers but also the same properties as the essential oil, in a more dilute (and often less expensive) form.

This is a great way to get the gorgeous scent (and therapeutic properties) of rose essential oil without paying the hideous price. Click to buy rose hydrosol.

My final word of advice: Play around with the recipe. Try it one way the first time, then try something else the next. (Also, I definitely recommend taking notes - I always forget what I wanted to change by the time I'm ready for more.)

Where to Buy Homemade Wrinkle Cream Ingredients

My favorite supplier for aromatherapy recipe ingredients is Mountain Rose Herbs. Their quality is good and their prices and staff are excellent. Here's some quick links to the ingredients you'll need for this homemade eye wrinkle cream recipe...
