There’s a four letter word that scares me whenever I think of back to school. It’s L-I-C-E. Oh that little

tiny bug that thrives on clean hair and can turn your home into a disaster! Since I’m not prepared to let my child skip a bath (lice prefer clean hair), I always spray her hair with this leave in conditioner after each bath. I also use a few squirts in the morning as I am styling her dry hair. It helps to remove tangles and create a little moisture to pull her hair into a pony tail and control those flyaways.

My daughter calls this homemade leave in conditioner the “stinky spray” because tea tree oil can sometimes be stinky to juvenile noses, but the alternative, getting head lice, is much worse than having to smell this spray for about ten seconds every morning and night. Plus, I know what’s going into her hair, since I made it.

You’ll need a few basic ingredients to make this leave in conditioner and each of them can be found at your drugstore. Glycerin is a skin protectant which helps to add shine to the hair and control those flyaways. Aloe vera juice will help dry and damaged hair, which is the basic goal of a leave in conditioner. And by adding tea tree oil, you’re adding a natural lice deterrent, as they don’t like the smell, and therefore are less likely to set up camp in your child’s scalp! Other essential oils that help are Peppermint, Rsemary and Lavender. I actually like to mix a few drops of all 4 of these oils!

Since everything is super diluted you can use any small spray bottle, I used these colorful ones for the photos, but I normally prefer a Glass Spray Bottle when I’m using Essential Oils. You can get Glass Spray Bottles on Amazon.

I like to put my leave in conditioner in small spray bottles so I can have them in multiple places around the house. Because when that letter comes home, telling me there’s lice in the school. I start to get itchy and use the spray in my own hair!
