What Are Age Spots?

Age spots (also referred to liver spots and sun spots) are typically yellow or brown spots that appear on the skin. They are flat and often emerge on the neck, face, and the back of hands on people over the age of 40. The majority of age spots are harmless and painless. However, you should know that advanced progression can lead to skin cancer.

Causes of Age Spots

Sun damage is the main culprit of age spots – when the skin has been repeatedly exposed to the sun over the course of many years [1]. Serious cases are associated with impaired liver function, poor diet, and a nutritional deficiency.

Age Spot Home Remedies

While using home remedies for age spots, don’t forget to protect your skin from further sun damage by using a sunscreen with at least SPF 15 – especially if you plan on enjoying the outdoors for lengthy periods of time. A handful of liver spot home remedies include:

a) Apple Cider Vinegar:

Mix one part apple cider vinegar with one part onion juice for a direct skin treatment that can fade the appearance of age spots. Finely chop or blend an onion and strain the contents with a cheesecloth or strainer to separate the juice. Use a cotton pad to apply the solution directly onto age spots. Leave the solution on for a minimum of 30 minutes once a day for about six weeks. A gradual improvement should take place.

b) Apple Cider Vinegar and Orange Juice:

Some people have combined two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of orange juice to treat age spots.
