DIY Pretty Legs Cream Using Essential Oils

DIY Pretty Legs Cream Using Essential Oils
DIY Pretty Legs Cream Using Essential Oils - Sweet Simple Living

Hey y’all! Today I wanted to share with you a moisturizer I use just for legs! Its very similar to my skin perfecting moisturizer but uses some different essential oils to help with other issues that are prone to happen on your legs. It moisturizes, tightens the skin, heals scratches and razor burn (for some reason my legs seem to always have a random scratch or two on them somewhere and random bruises now and then…anyone else?? Haha), and reduces the appearance of stretch marks, scars, and cellulite!

*A quick disclaimer before I get into the different ingredients and what they do: I want to emphasize the phrase “reduce the appearance of” for those last three. A lot of creams, DIY or store bought, claim to erase stretch marks and/or cellulite. Depending on the product of course…but I honestly don’t believe all scars and stretch marks can be completely erased. I guess it would depend on the severity of the mark and how long they’ve been there, but there are things you can do to help reduce the appearance of them regardless. The same thing goes for cellulite. The statistics I’ve read have said that upwards of 90%+ grown women have at least a little bit of cellulite, if not a lot, and rubbing a cream on it isn’t going to make it disappear by any means. It can, however, reduce the appearance of it, and aid in other techniques you can do to help remove it, which is still a plus! It can also help in the process of flushing toxins out of your body which can prevent and reduce cellulite over time. Dry brushing, consuming gelatin or collagen supplements (read the post I wrote about it!), drinking tons of water, eating clean, and regular exercise are some other ways of actually getting rid of the cellulite. Maybe I’ll do a post on this at some point! *UPDATE: I wrote the post! Click to read my new article 8 Natural Ways to Reduce Cellulite!

Hope you enjoy the recipe! As with all DIY beauty recipes, this is really customizable. You don’t need all of these oils and ingredients to make a decent leg cream- just use the ones on this list that you have or order a few basic oils that are good for lots of stuff if you’re just getting started!

DIY pretty legs cream with essential oils

-3/4 cup coconut oil

-1/4 cup shea butter (Can use more in colder months to make the cream softer. In the winter I usually do about half shea butter, half coconut oil! This makes it much easier to work with when its cold.)

-1 tsp. witch hazel

-1/2 tsp vitamin e oil

Your Choice of Essential Oil Add-Ins; Just use what you have! The ones in bold I would consider must-haves, for what I want this cream to do for me personally.

-7-8 drops juniper berry essential oil (My Favorite One)

-7-8 drops rosemary essential oil (My Favorite One) (optional-A reader pointed out that rosemary has hair growing properties, which is true! So she opted to leave this out. I haven’t noticed abnormal leg hair growth or anything since using this cream, but you can add it or leave it out since there are other oils with similar benefits in this.)

-7 -8 drops frankincense essential oil (My Favorite One)

-7-8 drops lavender essential oil (My Favorite One)

-7-8 drops grapefruit essential oil (My Favorite One)

-7-8 drops cedarwood essential oil (My Favorite One)

-4-5 drops carrot seed essential oil (My Favorite One) (You can use more, but I cannot stand the smell of this oil, so 5 drops is all I can take..haha)

UPDATE! Eden’s Garden, my favorite brand of essential oils has created a cellulite blend of essential oils that contains cedarwood, grapefruit, and juniper, along with a few other oils. If you wanted to use something like this instead, I would still add in frankincense, carrot seed, and lavender for the scar/cuts/razor burn/stretch mark healing!

Add all ingredients to a stand mixer. Coconut oil must be at room temperature- Not too hard and brittle, but not too soft or melted. Whip the mixture several minutes until its light and fluffy. It looked like creamy frosting and made me hungry for some cake..If it looks like this you’re done!

Like I said above, all these ingredients aren’t completely essential. If you’re missing some, don’t fret- Just use what you have. It’ll still be a great moisturizer! I also don’t measure anything when I’m making this. I’m terrible about measuring things even in cooking. I just guesstimated, so don’t get too caught up in the measuring. Here is my list of ingredients with a little more info on each one and why I chose to put it into my leg cream! This will also be helpful in deciding which oils you definitely want in your cream and which ones you think you could do without.

Coconut Oil is amazing. Its super moisturizing and is my favorite oil for moisturizing. The texture of it makes it a perfect base for stuff like this. It has also been known to fix and help so many skin issues as I went into more detail about in my Skin Perfecting Moisturizer recipe.

Shea Butter is a great natural source of vitamins A, E, and F. It reduces inflammation, and it also gives your skin nutrients to help produce collagen. As we age our bodies produce less collagen which is why we start to see changes as we grow up like cellulite, and eventually wrinkles. Skin products made with collagen are pointless because collagen is too large to be absorbed through the skin, but helping your body to produce more is awesome and helps prevent and reduce the appearance of these things.

Witch Hazel is an awesome natural astringent which helps tighten the skin. It also helps with razor burn, bruises, and varicose veins, as well as locking in moisture!

Vitamin E Oil is awesome for skin! It is known for healing and/or diminishing the appearance of scars & stretch marks and any unsightly mark that may occur on your legs! It is also very anti-aging so helps treat and prevent wrinkles.

Juniper Berry Essential Oil helps promote circulation, and also aids in removing toxins from the body which is why it is often recommended for cellulite. Toxins are stored in the fat that makes up cellulite. It is also a natural astringent, tightening the skin and keeping it youthful.

Rosemary Essential Oil
is another great oil for natural toning due to its astringent properties. It helps the skin look and feel firm and supple. It also prevents wrinkles, helps remove toxins from your body, and gives your skin a lovely glow.

Frankincense Essential Oil
is another oil I covered a lot in my previous skin cream post. Its my favorite oil! It has been proven to kill abnormal cells and promote regeneration of healthy cells. Its also an astringent, keeping the skin tight, and is a powerful anti-aging oil! It also helps heal scars, bruises, scrapes, and stretch marks.

Lavender Essential Oil is also great for speeding up healing time on scrapes, cuts, rashes, razor burn, and scars. It also smells amazing!

Grapefruit Essential Oil
is one of the major oils people suggest for cellulite due to its high amounts of the anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain, which can help break down the fatty buildup of cellulite and help flush out toxins as well.

Cedarwood Essential Oil
much like several of the above oils is an astringent. I’m beginning to sound like a broken record.. As you can see, lots of the ingredients in this help tone and tighten skin to keep it youthful! It also helps with circulation and toxin removal.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil
is like frankincense in that it is a powerful oil for anti aging and preventing wrinkles. It also is awesome for healing any scrapes, scratches, scars, and for reducing the appearance of stretch marks!

I spent hours of time on dozens of websites researching these oils to put together this recipe and give you all the info I’ve found about these oils! If you’re skeptical of anything I’ve said I’d encourage you to ask questions and do your own research! There is so much material about oils out there for your researching pleasure. Also…when in doubt, try it out! Its all natural and great for you so it can’t hurt. (As long as you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients!) I’ve used this cream, or an oil concoction with similar ingredients to this

for awhile now. I’m not the greatest at remembering to put it on everyday, but with my inconsistency, I can tell that my legs feel and look MUCH better when I’m using it rather then periods that I forget to put it on! Especially during these fall-winter months when my skin seems to get drier. Bonus tip! If you dry brush before a shower, and apply this cream to your legs after your shower, your legs will feel amazing. Exfoliated and soft and wonderful. Hope you love it!
