All-Natural DIY Recipes for Seasonal Skincare

Finding the right skin care products for your routine can be difficult, especially if you want to avoid conventional cosmetics, harmful chemicals, or animal testing. But did you know that you can make your own cosmetics and skin care products from all natural and even organic ingredients? Making your own organic beauty products is much easier than you think! With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a daily routine that is free of chemicals and good for you and the planet.

DIY Moisturizer to Beat the Winter Blues

This is a great moisturizer that will keep your skin looking smooth and fresh during the cold, dry winter months. It’s so simple to make that you won’t miss your expensive little tubs of commercial goop one bit!

What

you need:

• 1/3 cup aloe vera gel (don’t use juice or aloe from a plant, as the cream won’t whip properly)

• 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil

• 2 tablespoons jojoba oil

• 1/2 tablespoon beeswax

• 10 drops lavender essential oil

Method:

In a double boiler, gently heat the almond and jojoba oils with the beeswax. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can simply use a glass or metal bowl over a pot of simmering water on the stove. Once melted, transfer your mixture to a deep mixing bowl so it won’t splash out. Leave to cool for an hour until it reaches room temperature. Now start to blend your mixture with a hand blender. Pour in the essential oil and slowly start adding the aloe vera. Add aloe (mixing continuously) until you reach the desired consistency. Store in an airtight container.

Spring Forward Fresh Masks

When your winter hibernation is done and you emerge blinking in the spring sunlight, be sure that your skin is fresh and glowing with these easy and amazing DIY facemask recipes. When applying facemasks, start by washing your face with warm water and a gentle soap. This will open your pores. Apply the mask, taking care to avoid the sensitive skin around your mouth and eyes. These homemade facemasks may drip, so ensure that you are wearing an old t-shirt or cover yourself with a towel.

When you are ready to remove the facemask, wash with warm water. Avoid using soap at this stage – your face is already clean, and it will dry out your skin. Simply pat your face dry with a soft towel, and apply your moisturizer as normal.

1. Cooling Cucumber Facemask

Cucumber is brilliant at reducing puffy bags under your eyes, while the yogurt in this recipe helps to exfoliate and fight discoloration.

What you need:

• 1/2 cucumber (peeled)

• 1 tablespoon yogurt

Method:

Blend together to form a paste. Apply to your skin and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water, and pat your face dry with a soft towel. Moisturize as normal.

2. Delicious Avocado Facemask

Avocado restores the elasticity of your skin and provides your epidermis with a ton of vitamins and minerals. Try this one on for size.

What you need:

• 1/2 ripe avocado (mashed)

• 2 tablespoons hot water

• 1 teaspoon honey

Method:

Dissolve the honey in the hot water and add it to the mashed avocado. Apply to your face and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

3. Yummy Oatmeal and Banana Facemask

Oatmeal is a wonderful combatant to acne, and it helps to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Oats can improve the texture of your skin and even out your complexion, while the banana provides potassium and helps to hydrate your skin.910

What you need:

• 1 tablespoon cooked oatmeal

• 1/2 ripe banana

• 1 teaspoon milk

Cooling DIY Summer Apple Cider Toners

Toners are great for people with oily skin and acne. The apple cider helps to restore the skin’s natural pH balance, which prevents acne. Apple cider vinegar is rich in alpha hydroxyl acids and can reduce the appearance of age and sun spots. A good apple cider vinegar toner can dissolve dead skin cells and improve the appearance of acne scars. When making this cooling toner, try to get organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar for best results.

What you need:

• Apple cider vinegar

• Mason jar

Method:

Pour one part apple cider vinegar and two parts water into the Mason jar. Shake well. Apply to your skin after cleansing with a cotton swab. Gently pat dry with a soft towel.

Makeup Remover for Fall Colors

Makeup removers contain some of the worst chemical culprits in cosmetics, such as 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol, a chemical that releases formaldehyde. While their astringent concoctions do mean that you can remove almost all your makeup with just one wipe, your poor skin (and the environment) pay dearly for this convenience. Instead, use your DIY skills to make your own natural makeup remover to safely clean up your face.

For starters, try coconut oil, or olive oil, massaged directly into the skin around areas with makeup. Using a cotton swab or face cloth, gently wipe off. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a soft towel.

If you still want the convenience of makeup wipes, you can make your own using natural ingredients.

What you need:

• Medium Mason jar

• Round cotton swabs

• ½ teaspoon witch hazel

• 1 teaspoon Castile soap

• 1 tablespoon coconut oil

• 1 cup hot water

Method:

Place the hot water and coconut oil in the jar and mix well. Add the soap and witch hazel and mix them together. Now stack round cotton swabs in the jar until it is 2/3 full. Close with an airtight lid and leave in a cool, dry place until needed.

Remember, it’s easy to make quality skin care products at home – even makeup! When reading the labels of some store-bought products, one can cringe thinking of the chemicals that are going to be on, and even absorbed by, your skin. So get glowing with the recipes above! And, ensure that only natural and safe materials are getting you there.
