Better circulation, support of lymph system and glowing skin are but a few of the benefits of this lost ancient art.
Sublime Beauty® is a fan. Read on to understand why.
What is Skin Brushing or Dry Body Brushing?
Dry brushing is simply brushing your skin (entire body except your face) in a specific motion to support skin renewal, stimulate the lymphatic system (which in turn helps the immune, nervous and digestive systems), aids in the removal of toxins, exfoliates and gives you a sense of well-being. Dry brushing is one of the easiest techniques you can add to your daily regime for the maximum benefits!
Dry brushing should be practiced each day, typically in the morning (before you shower.)
Why Skin Brushing?
Your skin is your largest organ, and it is an organ of elimination as well as barrier to the environment. It is estimated that one-third of daily impurities in your body are excreted through the skin. As we age, our bodies become less effective in shedding outer layers of dead skin cells. And toxins in the air and our environment also prey on our skin.
Fast Fact: It is estimated we eliminate about 40,000 cells per minute (source: National Geographic study). That is alot of cells! Imagine that as you age your ability to throw off these cells becomes less possible!
•Because your body health and functioning depends in part on your skin, dry brushing will help clear away dead cells and toxins on the surface to help you absorb oxygen and nutrients, and encourage cell renewal.
•You are clearing excesses that are clogging things up in your skin and elimination system when you Skin Brush! If dead cells and toxins build up, your skin loses its ability to get rid of toxins and it then it places stress on other organs.
•Dry brushing helps skin look and feel better as the build-up is removed. The skin will start to glow after regular use.
•Dry brushing stimulates your glands, providing more moisture for the skin to help it look and fresher more vibrant.
•Skin brushing works from the outside in as well. Importantly, it increases and supports blood circulation. This alone is important, but better circulation also contributes to healthier muscle tone and better distribution of fat deposits.
•Skin body brushing stimulates the lymphatic system by aiding the flow of fluids in your body. Our lymphatic systems don’t have a “circulation pump” like the heart with blood flow – the lymphatic system actually relies on movements of our muscles to work. Our lymphatic system is very important in elimination as it moves toxins out, supporting the immune systems by producing white blood cells and generating antibodies.
•Many say that while we have lymph nodes throughout our body, the most important areas with the most nodes are under the arms (armpits) and inner thighs – so giving attention to these areas while brushing is a good practice.
•Dry brushing aids in better digestion.
•Body brushing works to support cleansing of the whole system, inside and out. Accumulated waster products in the body can contribute to illness or premature aging.
•Dry brushing is a stress-buster! Your body feels and functions better, your skin feels and looks better, and your benefit is a sense of well-being.
•We could say that dry brushing is a form of DETOX for your body and your soul!
How? What is the Correct Method to Dry Skin Brush the Body?
** Your tool should be a natural bristled brush (either long handed or short). Sublime Beauty® searched and found the perfect kind of long-handled brush that would be helpful …. and on the Webstore. It is a dual-headed brush (nubs on the other side) that can be used for massage and cellulite treatments.
** We offer a Very Popular and Wonderfully Efficient Portable Skin Brush without handle that can fit into any bag, luggage or purse – great for travel or easy to store at home for everyday use! We want everyone to be able to continue the healthy practice, even if traveling.
** Most people like to dry brush every morning (though will do so at night, or even twice a day.) It is best to do this standing in your shower or tub so that dry cells can be washed down the drain.
** The first and most important thing to remember is this: you should always brush in the direction of your heart! Work outward to in (i.e. from hands to shoulder or feet to thighs).
** Brush in mid to long strokes that are firm but not too hard. It should feel good, pleasant or invigorating and should NOT hurt
** Brush each section with at least 3 to 5 strokes. Brush front and back. You may spend a few extra stokes on rougher areas like elbows or heels, and do remember to spend time on those lymph node-rich areas (armpits and upper inner thighs).
** Typically it’s best to start with your feet (soles and tops of your feet) and move up your body.
** Avoid any open sores or cuts.
** Drink a full glass of water after brushing (or shortly afterward).
Repeat daily and make it part of your health regime. Your body will thank you for it!
Our brochures explain the procedures, and Kathy Heshelow can answer questions directly by phone or email! She often speaks with clients and is enthusiastic about Skin Brushing!
The face is more delicate and requires a smaller, more delicate brush and a slightly different technique. We lay out the differences between body and face brushing, and HOW TO face brush as well. Our new Face Brushes are now available, too!

A note on Cellulite management:
If you have cellulite, you may want to go through a specific and direct treatment for 1 to 3 months. This includes massage of a special formulation of natural products known to attack those fat cells, helping to dissolve them. It will also strengthens and smoothe the skin to fight dimpling.
Our Cellulite Whisperer® Gel dissolves toxins and supports the skin, and is massaged into the skin. It is followed by Cellulite Whisperer® Lotion that smoothes and aids the skin while continuing to work at the toxins. Most of the ingredients are organic. You can read more here at our Cellulite Whisperer site.
Skin brushing before these treatments is a good practice, AND daily skin brushing is a good maintenance practice once you have reduced the effects and completed your treatments. Keep it up!
