It's every woman's fantasy: Pop a magical pill for prettier skin, healthier hair and longer nails. And that's exactly what the new generation of beauty supplements promises. But can a vitamin do anything that your beauty products can't?

"You can only absorb so much through the outside," says naturopathic doctor Taryn Forrelli, Vice President of Innovation at Olly. Your skin care and hair products can't make up for a lackluster diet -- but beauty supplements can.

Whether it's our crazy schedules or vegan-gluten-free-paleo diets, one thing is certain: Many of us just aren't getting the nutrients we need for the gorgeous skin, hair and nails we want, says Forrelli. "To get all the basic vitamins and minerals, just for baseline function, you would need to consume at least nine servings of fruit and vegetables a day," she explains. "Just like every other organ in your body, your skin, hair and nails need to start with a solid nutritional base for those cells to be healthy and strong," says Forrelli. Once you do, your hair, skin and nail health will

reflect that."

While beauty supplements seem like a fast-pass for beauty, Forrelli says results are anything but immediate. Expect to wait four to six months to see a difference --especially in hair and nails.
